The Makings of a Memorable Story

What makes a good book? Is it the relation between the reader and the main character? Is it the funny jokes or tragic moments? Is it the haunting mystery that leaves you starving for the answers? Perhaps it is all of these things that makes a truly well-written story, but for me... it's the struggle.

There is a part in every great book where the main character has hit an impossible obstacle, an insurmountable wall that seems to travel for miles in either direction. A challenge so fearsome that the character finds himself collapsing to his knees in defeat as he wonders how he could possibly overcome such odds.

But that is not what makes the story great. The turning point is where the character pulls himself to his feet and decides to climb that wall. No matter what difficulties arise, he is determined to see it through to the end. That moment in the book where the character breaks out of his previous chains and conquers the impossible.

"I always wanted to be brave... I thought, do the brave thing and bravery would follow." - Belle, Once Upon A Time

Now that is what makes a truly inspiring tale; one you can carry with you the rest of your life so that hopefully in your own moment of weakness... you to can find bravery.
